Do you have a lot to say? Are you the go-to person amongst friends for advice? Have you thought about blogging, but don’t know where to start? Well, it’s as easy as one, two, three to start your blog today!
As easy as one, two, three. Seriously! It’s that easy.
Step One: Your Blog Needs A Name!
Every blog needs a name! So put your thinking cap on and get to brainstorming. If you could sum up your personality in just a few words, what would it be? Now think about what topics you want to blog about and how you can tie those in to the personality words. Try to make it snazzy and easy to remember so people will be coming back again and again! Some of my favorite blogs have short and sweet names, like Pinch of Yum and House of Brazen and Damn Delicious!
Once you’ve settled on your blog’s name, it’s time to get that domain name!
Google is the place to go for a great deal on your domain name!
For just $12 a year, you get the domain + FREE private domain registration. That’s an expensive add on if you were to get your domain anywhere else. It is worth it to have it; otherwise, you will be hounded by e-mails offering assistance for your website.
Step Two: Your Blog Needs A Home (aka hosting)!
So you’ve decided on the perfect name and have purchased your domain….. now onto hosting! I personally use SiteGround as my host and I love it. I set up my sister’s blog (that she never uses) on HostGator and they are great as well. However, I still prefer SiteGround.
SiteGround has the best customer service and is super easy to use!
If you sign up for hosting through my SiteGround affiliate link you can get hosting for your blog for as little as $3.95/mo! *Disclosure: If you sign up via my link, I will receive some compensation. I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t absolutely love it.*
From my experience, you really don’t need any of the add-ons that they offer. For 12 months of hosting, it’s only $47.40!
Step 3: Make Your Blog Look Amazing!
Name? Check. Hosting? Check. Now on to my favorite part, customizing the appearance of your blog! I purchased and tried out about six different themes before I found the one I’m currently using now. Don’t worry though, there are plenty of great FREE, I repeat FREE, themes available!
Free Options: I have handpicked a few free themes to show the different styles available.
Paid Options: These are a few themes from design shops that I love!
Bella Creative Studio and Bluchic are two of my favorite theme makers. I purchased two from Bella Creative Studio and one from Bluchic. One of the free themes listed above is made by Bluchic. I’m currently using a theme that I purchased from Pipdig.
