How Affiliate Marketing Makes It Easy To Make Money Blogging

There are multiple ways to make money with a blog, but today we are going to focus on just one: affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to monetize your blog. It is easy to implement naturally within your blog posts, doesn’t take away from the user experience, and if done right, can lead to a great source of passive income from your blog!

In a nutshell, affiliate marketing is when you share a commissionable link to a product within a blog post and if somebody clicks on that link and makes a purchase, you get a percentage of the sale.

There are multiple “affiliate networks” available for bloggers, such as Awin, ShareASale, and Rakuten, but the easiest one to get started with is Amazon!

Awin, ShareASale, and Rakuten often have more stringent approval requirements and you have to apply to each store’s affiliate program individually. So if you wanted to be an affiliate for Etsy, Target, and Walmart, you would have to apply for each separately.

With Amazon, you can sign up and be approved instantly. In order to stay in their affiliate program (you can always reapply, but when you reapply, you need to update your affiliate links in all blog posts), you need to make three qualified sales in the first 180 days.

Don’t ask me how, but Amazon has some secret ninja magic and can definitely tell if your aunt, former roommate, or somebody else remotely linked to you somehow, is making a purchase from your. Those would not qualify.

So then what is a qualified sale on Amazon? Basically any other click from your link to Amazon.

The best part about Amazon’s affiliate program? Your link works for 24 hours and they don’t even have to purchase the item they clicked on for you to get credit! So if somebody clicks on your Amazon link to a fancy air fryer and then goes and adds thousands of dollars worth of furniture or electronics to their cart, as long as they check out within 24 hours of clicking on your link, you get the affiliate commission for that whole purchase. Another bonus of affiliate marketing? It can create passive income! As long as people are reading your posts and the affiliate links you use in your blog are working, you can create income. One blogger I have followed for years, Debbie Gartner, consistently makes over $3,000 a month in just affiliate marketing revenue. She even has an awesome eBook for sale explaining how she does it!

In the next post in my series about making money with a blog, I will explain how sponsored posts can pay for a family vacation!
