If you search “happiness” in Amazon, over 100,000 results show up. You can get lost in reading the endless amounts of self-help books all claiming to give you the answer to achieving happiness. As somebody who has struggled with depression for years, I have come to believe that happiness comes from within and have found little things over the years that help boost my happiness on my down days. I still take my antidepressants but maybe with time, my doctor and I will work on taking me off of them. Here are 5 simple things you can do to boost your happiness.
Go For A Walk With Nature.
As Elle Woods in Legally Blonde said it best, “Exercise releases endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. And happy people don’t kill their husbands. They just don’t!” Obviously you can forget the last two parts, but the first two are definitely true! Going for a walk and appreciating the beautiful surroundings of nature can lift your spirits and boost your happiness like nothing else.
Read A Good Book.
When the weather is too chilly to go for a walk, there’s nothing better than curling up with a blanket and getting lost in a good book. Check out your local library and if the selection is slim-to-none, check out Amazon. If you have a Prime account, one of the many benefits is their Prime Reading. With over 1,000 titles to choose from, you can read to your heart’s content! If 1,000 plus titles aren’t enough, Kindle Unlimited offers over 70,000 titles to choose from for only $10 a month. Listen To A Catchy Song.
Kind of like the “A Pocketful of Sunshine” scene in Easy A, there’s nothing like the power of a fun, catchy song to get you pumped up and ready to have a great day! I like to listen to the Greatest Showman soundtrack. Every single one of their songs is catchy and makes you want to dance. Hugh Jackman’s role in The Greatest Showman definitely redeemed his ability to star in a musical in my eyes after Les Mis.
Indulge Your Sweet Tooth In Moderation.
Some days, you just gotta have a darn cookie! And that’s totally fine as long as you only eat one or two instead of 20 of them. If a cookie, a brownie, or ice cream is what will boost your happiness, then go right ahead and indulge your sweet tooth.
Lazy days are fine and dandy every once in a while, but being productive and accomplishing things, even if it’s just making the bed, is a wonderful feeling. Once you complete one task, you want to complete more and more. Soon enough, your to-do list will be empty and you’ll find yourself creating things to add to it!
